The Wrath of God vs the Wrath of Satan

Many people have trouble understanding the book of Revelation, and other end-times prophecies, because they confuse the Great Tribulation period with the Wrath of God. Many people tend to clump both events into one bad time that they don’t want to be in. These are, however, two separate events that happen at two different times, concerning two different groups of people. We must clearly differentiate between the two events if we are to have any hope of understanding the book of Revelation. Here are ten points that clearly separate the Great Tribulation and the Wrath of God.

  1. The Great Tribulation is the wrath of Satan (Revelation 12, etc.), and the Wrath of God is the wrath of God (Isaiah 13:9-13).
  2. The wrath of Satan is directed at Christians and Jews (Daniel 7:25, etc.), while the Wrath of God is directed at unrepentant non-believers (Romans 1:18, 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 1:10).
  3. Unbelievers will live life as normal during the Great Tribulation (Luke 17:26-30), but will live in intense fear during the Wrath of God (Isaiah 13:6-8, 17-21; 1 Thessalonians 5:3).
  4. There are Christians present throughout the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24; Revelation 6:1-11), but there are no (non-resurrected) Christians during the Wrath of God (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 5:9).
  5. The Antichrist will reign during the Great Tribulation (Daniel 7:25; 8:24; Revelation 13:5-8), but will be destroyed at the outpouring of the Wrath of God (Daniel 7:26; Revelation 19:20-21; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-9).
  6. The Antichrist will be exalted by the nations during the Great Tribulation (Revelation 13:4-8), but God alone will be exalted during the Wrath of God (Isaiah 2:11, 17).
  7. Sin is unrestrained during the Great Tribulation, but sin is punished during the Wrath of God (Isaiah 13:9-11).
  8. Jesus is in heaven during the Great Tribulation, but comes to earth at the outpouring of God’s wrath (Revelation 14).
  9. The Wrath of God will end the tribulation period (Revelation 11).
  10. If the Great Tribulation is the Wrath of God, at what point does Satan’s wrath become the wrath of God?
